Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK), also known as Laser Vision Correction, uses the advanced technology of the Excimer laser. Now in its second decade of use, LASIK has added an impressive amount of precision and safety to the surgical vision correction.
You may have questions in your mind as you consider LASER Vision Correction. Which procedure should you choose? Is one procedure better than the other? Should you choose the surgeon who advertises that they have the latest, the best? Should you choose the procedure over the surgeon? Should you choose the practice that offers a few hundred dollars less than the practice that has been well spoken of? Should you choose the practice which claims the number of LASIK procedures that they have performed? These and a million other questions may chase through your mind when you finally decide you want to have LASIK.
The question you want to consider is, 'Which surgeon should I trust my eyes to?' You have only one set of eyes and they are yours. The surgeon whose reputation goes before him and the results which come after him is where the safety of your surgery lies. Not the numbers, not the ads, not the procedure alone, nor the comparative dollar amount, but WHO you are willing to trust with your eyes. Which is the practice, and who is the surgeon that you feel comfortable with, at peace about?
This has to be your final question, and only you can make that choice which will lead to the outcome of your surgery, as well as peace of mind before you have the procedure. Experience and Compassionate Care Count!
Your first step should be to set up a free screening so your visual needs can be evaluated.Consulting with the surgeon who will be the one that you allow to work on those precious eyes is an important step. Putting your trust in his skilled expertise as he ascertains the procedure that is best for you, as you evaluate your overall experience will remove any question from your mind as to who should perform your procedure. In the hands of an experienced, trusted surgeon, whether he uses the microkeratome, a highly complex machine that necessitates the guidance of a skilled surgeon, and lasers such as the Allegretto: or "bladeless" lasers such as the Femtosecond Laser or the Intralase , , the results are what speaks for itself.

THE LASIK PROCEDURE
First, a thin layer of the cornea, or corneal cap, is lifted up as the microkeratome glides across the cornea.
In the Femtosecond laser, the laser is used to ablate the cornea instead |
Then,in 60 seconds or less, ultraviolet light and high energy pulses from the Excimer Laser to reshape the cornea with precision treatment. The Allegretto Laser, has one of the fastest eye trackers available today, which allows the laser to respond faster than ever before to the slightest eye movement during treatment.
After the tissue has been permanently reshaped, the flap is replaced in its original position, and Dr. Tin will prepare the other eye for the Excimer laser. Because of the cornea's extraordinary natural bonding qualities, healing is rapid and does not require stitches. The entire procedure takes less than 30 minutes.
